A LOOK INTO NIGERIA’S EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM
In this changing world, it is essential that the school curriculum of students be patterned with the need of the industry. What is the essence of schooling if what is learnt can’t be applied to solve issues that surrounds us today.
The system has given so much emphasis on score/grade to the extent that it doesn’t matter if students understand the concept of what is thought. This is causing and will cause much more set back if it is not addressed.
Every teaching should spur students to think of how what is thought can be harnessed after student’s understanding have been opened on how the given subject relates to the environment. Teachers has a duty also to look into problems in which the subject can solve and guide students through to solving it.
It is a disheartening today to have university Graduate from computer science who doesn’t have a programming skill talkless of applying it to solve pressing challenges that face us today.
It is essential today that students themselves go beyond the curriculum to learn, study and think of how their chosen course can be used the better their present community and the world at large.
The sooner we awake to this, the faster we will have a place as a voice in the world.
