There is a Paramount issue we must seek to address as an educational Body, I have discovered in my many years among secondary school students that they seems not to see reason to read well and prepare for external exams like West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examination Council (NECO).
On engaging some of them on the issue, I have come to discover that their action is borne from a confidence that they will do well in the exam even if they do not prepare because of certainty their school will show them answers to their given WAEC questions. What a thing to discover.
Both the school management and Parents have contributed to this menace we see today among secondary school students. The school management in the sense that, Educational institution is more of a business to them and not a platform to raise future leaders, which translate to them ensuring they do everything possible to ensure their students passed well because that will attract more students to join the school and increase their false reputation as an outstanding school where students passed exam in flying colours.
On the other hand, most parents have not inculcate into their children the dignity of labour but have also encourage their children by giving them money to pay for exam malpractices as requested by the school. Schooling has become more business oriented than Value oriented.
It is necessary we come out of these as soon as possible. WAEC bodies should see to it that supervisor’s or invigilators are will monitored from collecting bribes. The school school school return to the goal of building lives and parents should encourage their children to believe in themselves and work accordingly.
The country of our Dream is only achievable when all hands are on deck living right.
